The issue of deadlines and posting periods has come up, and I was wondering what people think about it.

Should there be a deadline for the challenge?
Yes, and I will suggest one in the comments
Yes, but you should stop being lazy and pick one yourself
Yes, there should be a posting period too
No, but there should be a cutoff for claims
No, there should be anarchy!

Having a deadline is a good idea, because I know for me personally that without a deadline it can take me forever to finish a story, and there are probably lots of people like me in that respect. Perhaps sometime at the end of summer, beginning of fall?
But I wouldn't complain if it were just anarchy =P

Yeah I second
. I also like the idea of it being at the end summer or the beginning of fall, that gives time for if they're going to do long ploty fics. Also if you're going do something like rounds there probably should be a cutoff for each rounds claiming period.
But hey anarchy works too, I like anarchy. *thumbs up*

(I'll be joining the comm in a minute, I swear!)
Uh, so you'll notice that I clicked both a "Yes" and a "No" answer. The "No" one was just for the second part "there should be a cut off for claims", not because it said no.
Basically, I think it'd be a good idea to have claiming go on for say a month-ish (that would allow for word of mouth to get more participants and for people with exams to have time to decide if they can sign up or not) and have about 6 weeks to 2 months after that for writing the fic, and then a week or fortnight for posting the fic (so sign-ups til mid/late June and August sometime for finishing the fic and then say the first week or so of September for posting the fic). This'd miss out most exams and so on for high-school/college people and would be long enough to be possible but short enough that people wouldn't forget about it.
OK, so I might have come off all righteous and sounding like I'm trying to tell you what to do, which I'm totally not, just trying to help out as you've said you don't have any co-mods (and I'd offer to help, I really would, but I'm already running a challenge this summer so I wouldn't have any time to help you out). I'm really sorry if I sound like a pompous ass, but I'm really just trying to help out (and explain why I chose which options that I did on the poll).

That didn't come off as self-righteous at all, and I really appreciate the input! :D

*is relieved* Thanks - you have no idea how worried I was that you/others would think I was being all rude and so on. I'm glad I could help you out though :)
